The Economic Performance of the UAE

The Economic Performance of the UAE The point of this paper was to break down the financial exhibition of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Specifically, the paper concentrated on the impact of the decrease in financial development rate in 2012 and the monetary arrangement that can be actualized to support monetary development. The IMF anticipated a decrease in monetary development of the nation from 4.9% in 2011 to 2.3% in 2012. The country’s restricted ability to build oil creation is one of the components that were required to cause the decrease in financial growth.Advertising We will compose a custom report test on The Economic Performance of the United Arab Emirates explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The discoveries of this paper demonstrate that the decrease of monetary development rate would diminish the country’s genuine yield and increment joblessness over the long haul. Therefore, the legislature should execute an expansionary monetary strategy so as to invigorate financial dev elopment. Also, the administration should concentrate on controlling the swelling and the swarming out impact related with expansionary financial approach. Outline of the Article According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the development pace of the economy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was required to diminish from 4.9% in 2011 to 2.3% in 2012. The decrease was credited to the country’s powerlessness to build its oil creation. In any case, the economy was relied upon to keep up its recuperation. The 2009-2010 Dubai obligation emergency unfavorably influenced the country’s property industry. Subsequently, Dubai World, which is a state-claimed organization, needed to rebuild its obligations that were worth twenty five billion dollars. Regardless, the nation had the option to endure the emergency because of ideal oil costs and improved exchange with Asia. As per the IMF, the vulnerability of the exhibition of the world economy was a danger to UAE’s de termined development. Succinctly, proceeded with decrease in the presentation of the world economy would constrain the capacity of UAE’s state-possessed organizations to supplant their developing obligations with new ones. Regardless of the endeavors made to rebuild the obligations, most state-claimed enterprises despite everything required high renegotiating. The IMF likewise accepted that the government’s choice to solidify monetary arrangement was correct. Clarification of the Article dependent on AD-AS Model The economy of the UAE as portrayed in the article can be clarified in the system of the total interest (AD) and total flexibly (AS) model. The model is made of up of three bends in particular, the â€Å"aggregate request bend (AD), the short run total flexibly bend (SAS) and the since quite a while ago run gracefully bend (LAS)† (Rossana 81). Figure 1 shows the short run balance of the economy of the UAE. Total interest incorporates utilization by priva te monetary elements, ventures, government consumption, and net fares (Chamberlin, Linda and Yueh 241). In such manner, the elements that will cause a move in the AD bend of UAE’s economy incorporate remote pay, salary dispersion, and monetary approach, just as, expectations concerning future yield and prices.Advertising Looking for report on business financial matters? We should check whether we can support you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Foreign pay alludes to the pay earned in UAE’s significant exchanging accomplices, for example, the United States of America, Europe, and Asian nations. As indicated by the article, the recuperation of the worldwide economy is questionable. This infers remote pay will decrease if the worldwide economy keeps on falling apart. Consequently, the interest for UAE’s fares, for example, oil will diminish. Thus, the income of UAE’s sending out firms will diminish. This somewhat clarifies why the state-connect ed firms won't have the option to rollover their obligations if the exhibition of the worldwide economy compounds. Generally speaking, the decrease in outside pay will cause the AD bend to move to one side from AD0 to AD1, consequently diminishing genuine yield from Y0 to Y1. Following IMF’s expectation of monetary decrease, makers anticipate that interest for their items should lessen in future. Consequently, they will diminish ventures and creation so as to maintain a strategic distance from the misfortunes related with high factor expenses and low interest (Rossana 126). Additionally, buyers will connect the normal financial decay with diminished future income. Therefore, they are probably going to decrease utilization so as to put something aside for what's to come. Therefore, the AD bend will move to one side from AD0 to AD1, though genuine yield will decrease from Y0 to Y1. As firms lessen ventures and creation because of the normal monetary decay, the â€Å"distributi on of salary from benefit workers to breadwinners is probably going to worsen† (Minford and Peel 329). For the most part, workers assign a bigger segment of their salary to utilization than benefit workers. Therefore, portion of salary for benefit workers instead of breadwinners will move the AD bend to one side. At last, the government’s plan to unite financial strategy is probably going to include a decrease in open consumption. This will bring down total interest, along these lines moving the AD bend to one side. The SAS represents the reaction of costs and genuine yield to changes in total interest in the short run (Romer 415). UAE’s short run flexibly bend will move because of changes in profitability. The normal financial decrease will prompt diminished profitability, along these lines moving the SAS bend in figure 2 to one side from SAS0 to SAS1.Advertising We will compose a custom report test on The Economic Performance of the United Arab Emirates explici tly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Additionally, genuine yield will lessen from Y0 to Y1. On the off chance that the worldwide economy keeps on weakening, the costs of UAE’s fares will decrease. This will dishearten creation among exporters, consequently decreasing total gracefully. Hence, the SAS bend will move to one side. The normal decrease in monetary development will cause the total gracefully bend and the total interest bend to move to one side. These movements are related with a decrease in genuine yield from Y0 to Y1. Subsequently, the short run harmony of the country’s economy will move from E0 to E1. Depiction of the Economic Situation of the Market The normal decrease in financial development will influence both the products and factor markets. In the products showcase, the monetary decrease can have beneficial outcomes for buyers. This is on the grounds that swelling for the most part decreases when monetary development lessens (Rossana 112). Briefly, financial decay decreases interest for merchandise and ventures. In this way, makers and dealers are probably going to diminish the costs of their items so as to animate interest and to free their stock from produced merchandise, along these lines lessening expansion. For this situation, the buyers will have a higher buying power than they had before the decrease of the costs. Despite what might be expected, the value decreases will influence the makers contrarily. This is on the grounds that it will lessen their net revenues. Furthermore, a few makers may sell their merchandise at a misfortune. The normal monetary decay will likewise influence costs in the factor advertise. As benefits diminish, organizations are probably going to actualize cost-cutting estimates, for example, decreasing their workforce. Additionally, organizations are probably going to diminish their interests in new hardware or obtaining so as to extend their activities (Minford and Peel 215). In such ma nner, factor costs will fall. For instance, wage rates are probably going to lessen as organizations cutback their workers. Likewise, loan costs, which is the expense of monetary capital is probably going to lessen as interest for credits decays. The decrease in factor costs will profit makers by bringing down their expenses of creation. In any case, it will contrarily influence providers of components of creation. For instance, low pay rates will diminish workers’ extra cash and buying power. The Right Fiscal Policy Fiscal arrangement alludes to the utilization of â€Å"government use, tax collection, and obtaining to impact the degree of total interest, yield, and occupations in an economy† (Chamberlin, Linda and Yueh 197). Monetary strategy empowers the legislature to impact the example of consumption and salary conveyance in its economy.Advertising Searching for report on business financial matters? We should check whether we can support you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Find out More In this manner, Keynesians accept that financial arrangement greatly affects utilization, profitability, and occupation creation in an economy that has an abundance limit. In this manner, the legislature of the UAE should actualize an expansionary financial arrangement so as to forestall a downturn. An expansionary monetary strategy alludes to â€Å"the increment in government use as well as a diminishing in charges that typically results into an expansion in spending shortage or a decrease in financial plan surplus† (Chamberlin, Linda and Yueh 210). Defense for Implementing Expansionary Fiscal Policy An expansionary financial strategy ought to be actualized in light of the fact that it will empower the administration to invert the monetary decrease. Succinctly, the strategy will prod financial development by invigorating utilization and request. The joblessness rate in the UAE expanded from 3% in 2008 to 4.2% in 2012 (Nyarko 4-15). Despite what might be expected, the countryà ¢â‚¬â„¢s swelling rate was as low as 0.7% in 2012. The expansion in joblessness rate, low swelling, and the normal decrease in GDP development recommend that the economy is working beneath its expected yield. The administration can push the country’s genuine yield back to its close to expected level by executing an expansionary financial arrangement that includes an increment in broad daylight spending. Government â€Å"expenditure is one of the segments of total demand† (Rossana 47). In this manner expanding it will result in

I am doing the former personally but the latter professionally because the stakes are just too damn high. I don’t want the lot of us to see the very first taskâ€"a book published posthumouslyâ€"and mindlessly pick up an Emily Dickinson collection. My girl was just the worst kind of em dash enthusiast (like those people who avoid gluten for funsies and consequently make restaurants roll their eyes at those of us whose health depends on the chef doing better than picking the croutons off a salad I’m not bitter you’re bitter). Responsible em dash usage is demonstrated above so drop the poems and slowly walk away, friends. I got other options for you right here. Memoir/Autobiography The Bright Hour: A Memoir of Living and Dying by Nina Riggs Hi, okay, this is not going to be easy reading. Riggs was a young mother when she got a breast cancer diagnosis. She’s on this list, so you know it doesn’t end well. But she sure lived well when it counted, and wrote about it with a tenderness that makes this book soothing even as it hurts. She was a poet, and you know it. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi Here’s another young parent who is dying of cancer (one of the things you learn while compiling this list is just how terribly unfair it all is). His background as a neurosurgeon provides a unique lens through which we watch him pursue, receive, and react to a diagnosis. But this isn’t some kind of stilted academic account of his declining health. It’s a beautiful memoir that reveals the human beingâ€"the son, the husband, the fatherâ€"even as he fades away. The Opposite of Loneliness: Essays and Stories by Marina Keegan This list is becoming a downer. It’s not too late to close this window and just read The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Still here? Okay, then here’s a collection by a woman who died in a car accident when she was barely out of college. The untimeliness of Keegan’s death may predispose you to approach her work with an indulgent kindness, but the writing stands on its own merit. I wish we could have gotten more. Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography by Laura Ingalls Wilder and edited by Pamela Smith Hall Wilder led a long, full life! But sorry, if you treasure the version of events as presented in the Little House on the Prairie series, your wholesome bubble is going to be burst by this earlier work. You will, however, learn the unvarnished origins of the well-loved tales and gain some insight into why the children’s novels were an effective format for Wilder’s life story. Fiction The ethics of posthumously published fiction is fuzzy, but here are five books Im comfortable recommending. Barracoon: The Story of the Last Slave by Zora Neale Hurston or the novel announced only last week The Aeneid by Virgil or why I almost majored in Classics The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov or what I read that one semester instead of the assigned reading because this book had a cat on the cover 2666: A Novel by Roberto Bolaño or the Chilean doorstop of a book that you can totally get through especially if you like crime novels Persuasion by Jane Austen or the Austen book you should read that isn’t that one book or that other book Look, Im sorry, Im just spent from reading such recent memoirs by people who knew they were dying. But this task is so worth it, and I hope by this time next year youll agree.

A Speech On A Quiet Summer Night Essay - 2115 Words

Introduction On a quiet summer night on June 17, 2015 a 19 year old young man, wearing a gray sweatshirt, dark jeans and Timberlands, walked into a historic, pre-civil war era church. There was no lock preventing his entry. There was no security guard he had to walk by. There was only a security camera that would catch his unassuming entrance. Once inside he sat quietly as the regular attendees held a small prayer service. He was welcomed and sat with the small group as they read the word of God. No one could tell from his demeanor or his appearance he was there to do unthinkable harm to those inside. And without provocation or warning he began to shoot one unarmed person after another, after another. He took the necessary time needed to ensure each shot was a lethal shot as most of the parishners were dead before emergency medical attention would arrive. The armed gunman was not concerned he would be stopped by any of those inside Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. He was n ot concerned any of his victims would have a firearm that could be used against him. Why? Maybe it’s because people of worship feel safe enough inside their house of worship. Therefore, a firearm is unnecessary. Maybe it’s because even legal Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) holders cannot freely carry a firearm inside a church. No matter the reason, no one inside the church felt compelled to carry a concealed weapon that fateful night in Charleston, South Carolina. The social performance of Amazon will be detrimentally affected if it bridges health and human rights laws and does not focus on providing better working conditions for its internal stakeholders- its employees. Amazon provides employment to more than fifty one thousand people across the globe. The company has faced issues related to labor that remain unaddressed. The e-commerce giant is a public company and investors emphasize on the fact that the company should be profitable every year. To focus on profit, Amazon has neglected the work-life balance of its employees in the warehouse and customer service department. The employees of the organization have complained about fifty to seventy hours of work within a week during seasons of holidays. Poor management of this warehouse centers were also reported by the employees. The labors complained that their shift timings were changed without prior notice and they were not allotted enough break time during holiday seasons. Employees have joined labor union in the company headquarters in Seattle but the company took actions immediately against this union. The company laid off around many workers (Amazon Layoff 2017).Amazon should be more responsible towards its employees. The employees of an organization contribute significantly to improve the customer service of an organization (Bergvall?Kreborn, Birgitta and Debra 2014) Impact on internal stakeholders (employees) Amazon aims to be a customer-centric organization and employees are internal customers of the company. The e-commerce giant should take proper care of its employees in order to sustain in the competitive business world. The Company should not neglect the health and work conditions of its labors as poor work conditions of employees can lead to a negative public image about the company. Amazon will fail to impress its external customers if the news and media channels publish negative reports about the poor work life of the labors of the company. This will create a negative public image and will have a detrimental influence on the brand value of the company. The negative brand value will affect the customer perceived value and the profitability of the company will be negatively affected in the long run if Amazon does not take proper care of its employees. The workers of Amazon contribute towards the success of the company by providing their best services like on-time delivery. Thus work ers of the company contribute substantially toward the strong development of the supply chain and logistics management of the company. Amazon should make efforts to improve the lives of its employees by providing them better work-life balance which will improve the profitability of the company in the long run (Work Culture of Amazon 2017). Conclusion The companys performance in the society in terms of external stakeholders like society, environment and customers is good. Amazon has been successful in its efforts of being a customer-centric organization. The e-commerce giant has undertaken several projects on charity and corporate social responsibility. The contribution of the company on environment management and conservation of energy is also noteworthy. However the company has performed average on its responsibilities towards internal stakeholders that means- the employees. The company should improve on this particular arena in order to be an excellent performer in terms of social aspect. The Canadian Judiciary Balancing Public and Private Spheres free essay sample

Focuses on explaining the Judiciarys role in Canadian society. This paper represents an attempt to identify the Canadian Judiciarys ability to balance the interests of the public and private spheres according to changing social and political attitudes, as well as an evaluation of internal characteristics of the judiciary and how they necessarily effect this balance. Without question the judiciarys role in protecting individual liberties is valuable, however there are certain elements involved in the judicial process that have made its role highly controversial. The undemocratic nature of the judiciary calls into question its merit in handing down activist decisions that see the judiciary competing with legislatures to form the laws of Canada. Similarly, the its undemocratic, unrepresentative nature creates suspicion as to whether the judiciary is interested in protecting the rights of the common man which is the underlying purpose of the Charter. Perhaps of greatest concern is the tremendous scope of interpretive power the legislature commonly leaves to the judiciary, through the formation of unspecific, inconclusive legislation. How to Construct an Index for Research

How to Construct an Index for Research An index is a composite measure of variables, or a way of measuring a constructlike religiosity or racismusing more than one data item. An index is an accumulation of scores from a variety of individual items. To create one, you must select possible items, examine their empirical relationships, score the index, and validate it. Item Selection The first step in creating an index is selecting the items you wish to include in the index to measure the variable of interest. There are several things to consider when selecting the items. First, you should select items that have face validity. That is, the item should measure what it is intended to measure. If you are constructing an index of religiosity, items such as church attendance and frequency of prayer would have face validity because they appear to offer some indication of religiosity. A second criterion for choosing which items to include in your index is unidimensionality. That is, each item should represent only one dimension of the concept you are measuring. For example, items reflecting depression should not be included in items measuring anxiety, even though the two might be related to one another. Third, you need to decide how general or specific your variable will be. For example, if you only wish to measure a specific aspect of religiosity, such as ritual participation, then you would only want to include items that measure ritual participation, such as church attendance, confession, communion, etc. If you are measuring religiosity in a more general way, however, you would want to also include a more balanced set of items that touch on other areas of religion (such as beliefs, knowledge, etc.). Lastly, when choosing which items to include in your index, you should pay attention to the amount of variance that each item provides. For example, if an item is intended to measure religious conservatism, you need to pay attention to what proportion of respondents would be identified as religiously conservative by that measure. If the item identifies nobody as religiously conservative or everyone as a religiously conservative, then the item has no variance and it is not a useful item for your index. Examining Empirical Relationships The second step in index construction is to examine the empirical relationships among the items you wish to include in the index. An empirical relationship is when respondents’ answers to one question help us predict how they will answer other questions. If two items are empirically related to each other, we can argue that both items reflect the same concept and we can, therefore, include them in the same index. To determine if your items are empirically related, crosstabulations, correlation coefficients, or both may be used. Index Scoring The third step in index construction is scoring the index. After you have finalized the items you are including in your index, you then assign scores for particular responses, thereby making a composite variable out of your several items. For example, let’s say you are measuring religious ritual participation among Catholics and the items included in your index are church attendance, confession, communion, and daily prayer, each with a response choice of yes, I regularly participate or no, I do not regularly participate. You might assign a 0 for does not participate and a 1 for participates. Therefore, a respondent could receive a final composite score of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 with 0 being the least engaged in Catholic rituals and 4 being the most engaged. Index Validation The final step in constructing an index is validating it. Just like you need to validate each item that goes into the index, you also need to validate the index itself to make sure that it measures what it is intended to measure. There are several methods for doing this. One is called item analysis in which you examine the extent to which the index is related to the individual items that are included in it. Another important indicator of an index’s validity is how well it accurately predicts related measures. For example, if you are measuring political conservatism, those who score the most conservative in your index should also score conservative in other questions included in the survey.

Globalisation, Transnationals and Economic Policy - Essay Example Foreign direct investment has been very very important to the economic development in Central and Eastern Europe over the last decade. Basically, importance is marked by successful resource seeking there. Also, Market seeking is another important economic development in Central and Eastern Europe. Lastly, Efficiency seeking has improved the economic situation in Central and Eastern Europe.Basically, importance is marked by successful resource seeking there. Some parent companies invests large capital resource in order to to acquire major factors of production that are more efficient than if the factors are obtained in its home country base. In fact, these scarce resources may not even be available in the home economy at all. These major factors include cheap labor and natural and resources. This exemplifies why Foreign Direct Investors set up shop into developing countries like the Asian third world countries. Specifically, some parent companies would go out of its way to seek cheap and hard to find natural resources in the Middle East and Africa. Other foreign direct investment companies prefer to set up manufacturing plants in in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe because of the cheap labor costs there. This will increase the purchasing power of the workers in Eastern Europe. As a result This will decrease the unemployment rate in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Also, Market seeking is another important economic development in Central and Eastern Europe.... As a result This will decrease the unemployment rate in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. Also, Market seeking is another important economic development in Central and Eastern Europe. Some foreign direct investment companies would daringly venture in uncharted waters as they set up shop in Central and Eastern Europe. The companies main aim is to increase its market territory. Expectedly, this marketing strategy of expansion will increase total world-wide sales thereby increasing profits. Reasonably, the parent companies only want to protect or their current sales figures. Hopefully, some parent companies just want to infiltrate the markets of its competitors while protecting its markets in its home country base. Some parent companies enter this type of international marketing strategy through mergers and acquisitions. Lastly, Efficiency seeking has improved the economic situation in Central and Eastern Europe. Clearly, some foreign direct investors venture into Central and Eastern Europe in order to exploit the economies of scale and the scope there. The market in Central and Eastern Europe can be segregated into the rich, the average and the poor customer prospects. It is even suggested that this type of Foreign Direct Investment can be realized after either resource or market seeking investments have been cropped up. Then, this will in all probability will increase the sales as well as the profitability of the firm. Typically, this is the type of Foreign Direct Investments that is mostly widely practiced in highly developed economies. This is what is actually happening within closely integrated markets like Central and Eastern Europe. EXAMPLES: In Western Europe( Thuermer, 2006) stated

RELIGION AND THEOLOGY Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

RELIGION AND THEOLOGY - Essay Example The motive is to prepare people to lead and make disciples of leadership. This paper will discuss the five essential activities that Michael describes in the book. This will also entail describing how these five essential activities are implemented relative to the questions asked. This will also entail description of the principles that a leader should live by in order to accomplish the mission. The paper will then outline the lessons learnt regarding the leadership for discipleship subject to the author of the paper. The author will also include the impact of these lessons in relation to the leadership practices. Michael (2010, 23) states that a good theory is what promotes and develops good ideas, which can be, later translated into excellent practices in leadership. In his encounter with the youths and missionaries, he developed the five essential activities that should be implemented in order to answer the five questions asked by the youths. In order to answer the questions asked , Michael developed five questions that would help bring into light the questions the rest asked. The first question was relating to the Christian education. The consideration put forth was answering what Christian education entailed. ... The fifth question revolved around people who were involved in the education process. The roles of these people and their background information were the key concern. Michael, within a period of a year, had formulated the essential activities that answered the five questions2. Interview Questions The first activity was meant to answer the question of Christian education. The essential activity was to define what discipleship comprised of in relation to the scriptures. The third activity involved preparing a plan to aid in the teaching and learning process. This answered the third question. The fourth activity involved establishing a condusive environment to streamline the education. This answered the question regarding the context or what was to be included. The fifth activity involved developing a heart to serve people. This answered the question regarding the people3. These activities were implemented in a number of ways. A plan was developed to ensure all the five activities were implemented. The plan was phrased to the young reformers. The group targeted was the youths who were in their final years in high school. This encompassed age between 20 and 30. The reason for choosing this group was due to the thought that they were least reached. The sermons were taken not to function on them, and attending services was not their common doctrine. The introduction of literature evangelism was a major capture of the age group4. The mission skeleton or guideline adopted by Michael was laying consideration on the assignment itself and vision on how it will be implemented. Importance Of Salesmanship In Carrying Out Duties Front desk job of any hotel is very important from hotel sales point of view. Marketing and sales department is called revenue generator. Front desk job is part of the marketing department so its directly linked with revenue generation activities of a hotel. An employee working as front desk employee is having direct interaction with the guests. So it becomes very important for that employee to have all the chief characteristics of a good salesperson. A good sales person can convert first time guest in to repeat business guest by make him or happy and achieve customer satisfaction. This is the hospitality and customer demand only that can be kept in mind while handling customers at front desk that will bring customer satisfaction. Desired hospitality and less cumbersome process of check in and checkout will bring customer satisfaction. Working as a Front office manager or staff, first of all he or she should consider the available resources of the hotel concerned which need to be focused to the materialization of the business. Good salesmanship is all about selling own product with acceptance of the customers. Whatever product one have a good salesperson will sale that product and make feel to the customers that this is the right product he was looking for. This is simply quality of a sales person that he or she will find out the budget of a customer while conversation and offer the product that give within the budget feel to the customer. While conversation it is the quality of a salesperson to explain the facilities of the product to the customer that will again give feel of the right product customer was looking for. Abbey J.R (1998) Customer relationship management is new concept in the field of any business. So it is the quality of a good salesmanship that helps in effective implementation and management of customer relationship in the hotel organization. In this competitive world getting new business is big challenge so hotel organization believes in repeated business from the same clientele. With the help of knowledge and smartness in work of a salesperson management of customer relationship is possible. These days it is being managed by ecommerce so knowledge of ecommerce to the front desk employee can be added quality of a good salesmanship and it will bring the business from existing clientele. If an organization utilizes the available resources properly, Implementation of yield management will makes major changes in the hotel. It will bring maximum market shares of the city concerned. Guest generally always looks for the comfortable stay and the luxury facilities for their money. It is the quality that always speaks better than any other advertisement. So if front desk employee gives proper feedback to the hotel, hotel can maintains the quality towards the tariff and the interiors which will bring the maximum revenue within a short period. So it is the benefits of the good salesmanship. So as conclusion author would like to say that good salesmanship is very important while performing duty of front office department of hotel industry because it helps hotel not only to get good business but maintaining relationship with customers and feedback to the hotel for up gradation of its quality of product and services as well. Q.1 (2) Explain, with examples what selling techniques you might use when checking in a guest. Overall selling technique is depends upon salesmanship and kind of guest but in general a front dest person has to apply his or her selling skill keeping in mind normal procedure of checkin.Selling techniques for checking guest is nothing but quality of a good salesperson. A salesperson should be very friendly and caring to the guest so that customer will be satisfied. Sales person should use up sell technique first while explaining price of the available rooms, followed by prestigious pricing and cut rate pricing. Along with these salesperson should explain how brilliant the facilities are within the room to justify the price of the room. There may be a case that same room can be sold at different price. It is the duty of a good salesperson to find out the level of desire of the customer for the product he or she is asking for and charge price accordingly. During heavy demand of the accommodation it is totally depends upon front desk employee-salesperson to maximize the yield of accommodation by selling the same product at different prices as per the customer profile and need. Being a good salesman a front office employee can suggest various pricing techniques-top down pricing, prestigious pricing, cut rate pricing etc, to the hotel to maximize its yield. So it is the quality of a salesperson to identify and recognize the level of demand and ability of a customer to pay for the same accommodation and fixed the price accordingly. Abbey J.R (1998) For example if there is arrival of guest first of all front desk person should handle the guest with friendly approach, asking for the kind of room looking for then explain the kind of room available with its pricing. First of all salesperson should try to sell the room at higher price then depending upon the negotiation skill of the salesperson and budget of the customer price can be prestigious or if required and supported by the market sentiment it can be cut rate price be fixed. After this negotiation skill guest should be registered and room should be assigned promptly. As per the situation if needed guest will be assisted in completing registration process. Then there will be verification of method of payment to be made by the guest-whether cheque, cash, card or payment by company etc.will is known by conversation and then there will be escort to the guest till the room. Q.2. Discuss the type of check in system that you would expect to see at the turner Hotel. Hotel Turner is a big chain of Hotel with 297 rooms hotel located in Central London. It is part of a well reputed group of hotels with 12 hotels running successfully in London and other major European cities. 42% of its clientele is corporate. Only 8% and 14% amount to walk-ins and leisure guests respectively. For this type of hotel, front office system should enable reception staff to maintain track of all bookings, state of rooms, guest details and charges. It should be efficient in coordinating restaurant reservations for guests, plan housekeeping duties and process guest check-in and check-out as per the market segmentation. Hotel Turner would also require a system that should provide a means to communicate effectively with all travel agents and activity operators linked to the online reservation system. Hospitality management systems are the applications/ modules that smoothens a hospitality business. From the room service system in a restaurant, to online reservation and an easy and fast check in procedure, it enables efficient communication and management of operation, eventually growing business and revenue. (www.wikianswers.com) Features that Hotel Turner should look out for includes: Reports for arrivals departures on a specific date. Guest ledger and reservation details, including activities and special requests. Room rates, discounts, package deals, group bookings, etc. Visual schematic of hotel rooms and status. Visual schematic of calendar with room availability. Facility for printing check-in cards for guests. Flexibility in re-assigning guests to different room. Facility to easily add charges to rooms from restaurants, spa, gift shop, etc. Incorporate all payment options upon check-out and print receipt. Print work roster for staff Facilities for storing guest history Communicate efficiently with reservation and travel agents Hotel Turner should have a system that can be efficiently used for online reservation system. This type of software package is essential as per the hotels cancellation and Guarantee policy. It will help in increasing direct online bookings instantly. Prospective guests can view hotel rooms (size, choice of beds), availability and prices, plus services and facilities offered. The systems should have instant confirmation of credit card payments or other secure online payment method. After payment of deposit and confirmation by email, guests should be able to login to view or change their reservation details. Cancellation policies should be stated, airport transport options mentioned. How would the check in procedures differ when dealing with? ( a) A guest with a reservation Usually guest check in procedure for reserved guest and chance guest is same except for slight variations. Check in procedures for a guest with a reservation will be as follows: Receive the guest with a smile, and greet according to the time. Check if he/she is holding reservation Get the guest registration card and fill it up with all the necessary and required details of the guest. Fill up the key and the welcome card If the guest is a foreigner, get the C form and fill it up. Allot the accommodation Fill the arrival register Make information slips and send them to telephones, room service and housekeeping Open guest folio In case of VIP, CIP etc inform all the departments Lastly inform the bellboys to carry the luggage and escort the guest to the room and wish a comfortable stay in the hotel. Typically pre registered guests or guest with reservation only need to verify information collected by reservations agents during the reservations process. They only need to verify information already entered onto a registration card and provide a valid signature in the appropriate place on the registration card. On the other hand, chance guest or walk in guest needs to fill the pre-registration card at the time of check in. Pre registration also involves room and rate assignment and creation of guest folio apart from producing registration card. The registration process can be divided into six steps Pre registration activity Creating the registration record Assigning the room and the rate Establishing method of payment Issuing the room key Fulfilling the special requests (b) A chance guest In the case when guest is a chance guest the process of check in would almost be same except some cases. Like as guest is a chance guest so there will be no earlier reservation done for the guest so in this case first of all as process front desk person should check for availability of rooms and there will be efforts to create room for him or her. Rest of the process like fill up the key and allotting the accommodation escorting till the room will be similar. There may be a case that in case of a chance guest a front desk employee has to utilize his or her negotiation skill for the price of the room as per the level of need of the room by the guest. This is the skill of the employee to materialized the opportunities then and there. So overall the difference in check in procedures for a guest with a reservation and a chance guest is not much the only thing is role of a front desk person becomes very important because while negotiation and first interaction a materialization of an oppo rtunity depends. Q.4. Explain the necessity of overbooking and its legal implications in relation to Turner Hotel. The term overbooking is concerned with a situation which shows booking of the room have done excessively than the actual available room with the hotel. In general hotel does this because of reaching 100% occupancies. Hotel books over rooms than the available one with historic information and trend which includes unexpected cancellation. It is the synonyms of over commitment and oversold. No show has been a major cause of concern for the hotels worldwide. It amounts to major loss of revenue. However, no-shows and early departures still cost hotels money. The reservation guarantee through credit cards compensates hotels for one nights stay in the case of a no-show, but the hotel still needs to make up for a revenue loss if that no-show guest had a multiple-night reservation. (http://www.entrepreneur.com/tradejournals) Because of this panorama of no-shows and early departures, the hotel turner must unavoidably engage in some level of overbooking to help ensure that those potentially unsold rooms are filled. As we all know, however, hoteliers who overbook might have to walk guests after the hotel is full. (http://www.entrepreneur.com/tradejournals) Overbooking is another important element of the revenue management or yield management. Hotels overbook to redeem for customer cancellations and no-shows. For this reason, it is obligatory to forecast cancellations and no-shows. Insufficient overbooking results in unsold inventory; on the other hand excessive overbooking results in penalty cost which includes both the financial remuneration given to bumped customers and the prospective loss of future revenue due to customer dissatisfaction. The optimal level of overbooking is where the anticipated cost of overbooking for the next unit to be sold is equal to the expected marginal revenue from that unit. (International encyclopedia of hospitality management by Abraham Pizam) Most legal authorities agree that when overbooking results in walking a guest, a breach of contract occurs. Under certain circumstances, it may constitute fraud or misrepresentation as well. In addition, certain overbooking practices are likely to fall under the ambit of state consumer protection statutes prohibiting unfair and deceptive acts and practices. While the hotel industry attempts to portray overbooking as an economic necessity and legitimizes the process by attempts to provide guests with alternative accommodations, the hotels have failed to address the true effect and implicit costs association with the practice. Primarily because it is left to the individual state authoritys to regulate the industry. (http://legaldefinition.us) As far as Turner Hotel is concerned from the view point of overbooking, it is advisable not to go for overbooking because there will be breach of contract between hotel and its guests. But from the view point of business and maximizing revenue, it the only way to proceed little aggressively to achieve 100% occupancy. This is because after advance booking there is chances of cancellation of reservation as well, even if payment has been made in advance hotel organization has to bear loss for the foregone opportunities in case of booking not done. So keeping in mind these thing and profit maximization it can be done equal to the normal trend of cancellation. Hotel Turner must find a room for everyone who has a reservation and shows up on time to save themselves from any legal complications. Q.5 a) Explain the benefits to a hotel of accepting group bookings? Group booking is simply acceptance of bulk business. In group bookings both the parties-customers as well as hotel be benefitted. Customer got benefit of low rates of the rooms due to the bulk booking and on the other hand hotel gets bulk business at a time so even at a less room cost per person hotel welcome this kind of deal to get instant business and achieves its 100% occupancies. A group reservation is for a block of rooms in a hotel. The block of rooms can be for a convention, a meeting, a special event, a tour group (as in present case of hotel turner), or various other reasons. A group reservation can be as small as 5 rooms to thousand rooms depending on the size of the hotel. Usually every hotel has different norms and parameters for considering a booking as group booking, which generally depends on the number of rooms booked. By booking rooms in large quantities, the group receives a lower rate. Hotel is benefitted in this as they get business in bulk and their occupancy percentage increases giving them a competitive edge over their competitors. Group booking also makes the reservation process easy and hassle free for both; the guest as well as the front office associates. Usually when a group reservation is made a code is generated which is specific to that group and each reservation should include this code. To ensure that reservations get coded to the proper group and that correct rates are offered, the person taking the reservation should always inquire if the guest is part of that particular group. Bulk booking is beneficial to the hotel that is similar to any other business organization where organization gets benefits of bulk business. It is the deal that gives instant cash but per head cost becomes cheaper for the customer and organization both. But from organization point of view it is the instant cash that attracts bulk business and so to the hotel organizations. Other benefit of bulk booking is that there will be less chances of cancellation. In case of individual business if there is cancellation of the booking it is completely loss to the hotel organization because rooms are very highly perishable products. But chances of this kind of loss due to cancellation is very less because of concrete plan of the entire group. In group bookings even if one or two persons are not coming there will be almost no impact to the business because of the compact deal for the entire group-this may depends upon case to case, but bulk booking definitely good for the hotel organization. Q.5 b) what factors should the turner Hotel Front Office manager consider when deciding whether to accept the reservation request from Excelsior Tours? Group revenue management is evolving quickly. Revenue managers typically set guidelines for size and rate objectives based upon projected demand for higher valued transient demand. These criterions should be regularly reviewed and revised in hotel Turner. Even if a group request falls outside the preset parameters of the hotel, managers should still evaluate the request. (http://tutor2u.net/economics/revision-notes/a2-micro-price-discrimination.html) The basic objective of revenue management is to maximize yields. Acceptance of group bookings would be a great contribution towards achieving the basic objective of revenue management. So first of all Front office Manager of turner hotel should consider the objective of maximizing revenue of the hotel so keeping in mind this objective he or she should accept the offered group bookings. While deciding whether to accept the reservation request of 40 double occupancy rooms for 3 nights 4 days from Excelsior Tours, Hotel Turner should look into the room rate, which is currently GBP 300 on single occupancy. Among the major advances in Revenue Management technology is the incorporation of demand price- responsiveness for any property at any time period and for any market segment, including group. Other than the group being considered, front office manager must consider that this hotel might only have transient demand for these three days. Assuming that even if the forecasted demand shows that hotel can pick up 145 transient rooms each day at an average rate of GBP 320, which would give the 95% occupancy. Considering these assumed factors we can plot a line that shows incremental contribution at any given price point. From this hypothetical analysis, one can see that there will be break even ( no profit no loss situation) with the group at a GBP 230 rate, and that one could generate an incremental contribution. This approach says all about the factors of accepting a group at a requested rate. Some of the information is required to decide whether group booking should be accepted or not? This information is present occupancy level of the hotel. This information would have very helpful in deciding the acceptance of the deal.

The Works of Phillis Wheatley Essay -- Biography Biographies Essays

The Works of Phillis Wheatley Biography: Phillis Wheatley was born in West Africa around 1753. Sometime after her birth, she was brought to America and purchased by John Wheatley in 1761. He turned Phillis over to his wife, Susanna, to work as a personal maid. After realizing Phillis’ intellect, the Wheatley family encouraged Phillis to study the Bible and read English and Latin literature, history and geography. Wheatley’s first poem was published in a Rhode Island newspaper in 1767. Poems on Various Subjects consisted of thirty-eight poems written by Wheatley, and it could be found in London in 1773. Wheatley died on December 5, 1784.* Discussion of Wheatley’s Work: The poetry of Phillis Wheatley should be considered very controversial and powerful. The content of Wheatley’s poetry contains the muscle needed to strike controversy and power, but it also must be understood within the context of history. Wheatley was a black slave writing very methodic poetry in America during a time when African-Americans were considered to be less than animals. Reading and writing was not an option given to an overwhelming majority of slaves. Wheatley was able to do both with ease, and her white masters encouraged her to do so. The fact that Wheatley’s poetry was read in her time is another impressive factor. She was black and a female, yet she received a decent amount of readership. In addition, she was respected for her art. However, the controversy and power existed not only within the time period Wheatley lived in, but they also existed within the content of her poetry. "On Being Brought from Africa to America" praised the salvation that Wheatley received by coming to America and being exposed to Christianity. She also ... ... Wheatley stands as a pioneering figure of African-American poetry (Gates xi). Wheatley has provided tremendous inspiration for African-American literature. Role of Women in the Paleolithic and Modern Period

This memorandum serves three purposes: (1) declares the chosen person for the heart transplantation; (2) outlines the decision process; (3) evaluates possible outcomes of the made decision. Among the three qualifying candidates who were in need of the transplant, the person that was chosen to go through the process of heart transplant is Lisa; a 12- year-old female who has suffered from health issues all throughout her life.Lisa has suffered from various viral infections and a lupus-like immune deficiency which cost her entire childhood. In addition, her heart was damaged due to pneumonia which add her heart stop for a brief period of time. Even though her chances of surviving in her ass are not guaranteed, Lisa deserves a few more years added to her life to at least experience and see the beauty of the world. During the process of decision-making, two ethics-based processes were used for comparison purposes and analysis in order to thoroughly determine the recipient of the heart. In applying a Utilitarian ends-based ethics theory, the decision to choose Lisa was based on John Stuart Mill's concept of the Greatest Happiness Principle which seeks happiness as the only desired outcome; neglecting all the rules and reminisces (Ruggeri, 2011). Lisa should receive the new heart because she is the only person who suffered most throughout her life. Jerry, one of the candidates, had at least lived 50 years which enabled him to build his own family; while Oozy had at least lived for 30 years.Although both candidates mentioned also deserve the heart, Lisa deserves the new heart most because she will help inspire other children her age that there is hope if you Just believe in the goodness of the world and people. Another ethics-based theory that contributed to the decision of choosing Lisa is SST. Augustine theory about the ‘power of evil and sin. ‘ In his greatest spiritual autobiography, he detailed his sufferings and struggles with his own human nature (Rug geri, 2011).However, he used his compelling personal experiences of sin to impact everybody through teaching the lesson of struggle and virtue through religious faith. In analyzing the situation, Lisa is somewhat like SST. Augustine in a way that they have both struggled in life. If Lisa would be given the chance to live, she would have the chance to prove something to herself that she can accomplish something in her life. No one is too young to make a difference in this world. This heart transplant may not guarantee Alias's survival in her ass. However, the few years that will be added to her life will Just be enough for her to experience how to live a normal life Just like any other children in her age. There is so much innocence and youth in her that seeing her life be taken away would have been too much to bear for anyone to think. Hence, by applying all the ethics-based theory mentioned in this memorandum, the decision to choose Lisa as the recipient of the heart transplant was made, and further transplant process should be deployed immediately in order to save a young girl's life. This decision will be immediately communicated to the higher administration of the hospital as well as to the parents of Lisa immediately in order to confirm their approval and agreement regarding the decision made. Given that there is an immediate need for Lisa to receive the new heart, as the Lead Surgeon of the BBC Medical Center, the process of the heart transplantation for Lisa should begin as soon as possible.
